ADHD Coach NYC

Are you facing challenges in supporting your child or young adult with ADHD navigating through the educational journey and early professional life in the bustling city of New York? Do you find yourself constantly searching for methods to enhance focus and learning for someone with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) at various stages of their education or early career? Living in New York City can offer unique challenges and opportunities for students and young professionals alike, especially those dealing with ADHD.

As of the most recent data, about 6.1 million children and adolescents aged 2-17 years in the United States have been diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). This prevalence includes a significant portion of middle and high school students. Specifically, the age group of 12-17 years accounts for approximately 3.3 million of these cases, indicating a high prevalence of ADHD among U.S. teenagers. It’s estimated that about 16% of college students have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Adults with ADHD face significant challenges in the workplace due to symptoms like distractibility, impulsivity, hyperactivity, poor memory, boredom, time management difficulties, procrastination, and difficulty managing long-term projects. These challenges can lead to communication issues, missed deadlines, and strained relationships with coworkers.

Dr. Len Adler, a prominent figure in adult ADHD research and a psychiatry professor at New York University, estimates that a significant majority, around 75% of adults, are unaware that they have ADHD. This substantial lack of awareness can lead to significant harm for individuals who remain undiagnosed, impacting not only their own well-being but also their families and friends.

Our ADHD coaching provides tailored support for elementary, middle, high school, college, and young professional students, guiding them through the maze of common obstacles such as ADHD symptoms, hyperfocus, and the nuances of ADHD in school-aged girls. Our coaching leverages 12 ADHD superpowers to transform potential drawbacks into unique strengths.

Everything you need to know about ADHD is crucial for effectively understanding and managing this condition. Recognizing the differences between ADHD and ADD, understanding the ADHD brain vs. a normal brain, and exploring targeted strategies such as how to manage ADHD in school are all parts of the educational journey our coaching services provide.

TESTIMONIALS

My son got to a point in his writing where he just hit a wall with brainstorming. He needed some extra 1:1 time outside of school with someone who could handle the executive functions aspect, the anxiety piece, the extra time/silence my son sometimes needed, and the warmth and creativity that is his native space. Jake was beyond perfect. I just couldn’t have dreamt up a better fit. In addition, he documented his process, what was working with my son, so that I have a collection of emails to look back on when I need reminding about how to help my son when he’s feeling stuck – which is now very seldom. If I had five thumbs, they’d all be up. So I’ll just say, 5 stars! Thank you, Jakek and thank you, Themba Tutors. (By the way, this was affordable, to boot.)

I own a tutoring / educational consulting company myself.. I called to ask for help with my daughter who has sensory, adhd related issues. The woman on the phone was very honest with me and really guided me in the right direction. Most of the other companies I had called didn’t seem to understand what “multisensory” learning style means which is fine, but I’m assuming they wouldn’t understand my daughter’ learning needs. I wound up getting better services through my daughter’s school, but I’d recommend Themba to any parent with a child with special education needs.

Dr. Tamara provided great support to my 11 year old son with ADHD. She worked with him on morning and evening routines. She was professional and relatable and he bonded with her, allowing her to use their relationship to teach him “en vivo” as well as additional tools to help my son work through some socialization issues. He learned a lot and has benefited from her support. We may reach out at a next developmental stage if needed and hope she is available, but trust that Craig would find another good fit for our child if not. Craig listened carefully at intake, asking the right questions and later checked in to ensure things were going alright. A positive experience, highly recommend Themba Tutors.

Jacob has been such an integral part of Maya’s success with improving her organization and executive functioning. He partnered with us when Maya was just diagnosed with ADHD in 7th grade. Jacob gave us the support Maya needed through middle school and the application process for high school. Jacob is was very patient, creative, and encouraging to Maya. Without his help, we would have had a much more difficult road ahead of us. Maya is now transitioning to high school in person as a freshman.

Themba Tutors’ Process and Approach

Themba Tutors distinguishes itself with a specialized approach, offering personalized support for students and young professionals who are navigating ADHD, executive function challenges, and other learning disabilities such as nonverbal learning disorder (NVLD), dyslexia, autism, and more. They understand the distinct hurdles these individuals might encounter along their educational and career journeys.

For clients already collaborating with mental health professionals, Themba Tutors facilitates connections with appropriate specialists in their insurance plans.

The engagement process is initiated with a structured intake procedure designed to pair clients with the ideal coach:

  • Initial Contact for a Free Consultation: Reach out via email, text, or phone to arrange a prompt phone consultation, typically within 24 hours, coordinated by our intake coordinator, Jerry. With guidance from CEO Craig Selinger, an expert in executive functioning, this process ensures a seamless start and continuous improvement.
  • Initial Assessments: Before our meetings, clients must complete a complimentary executive function questionnaire tailored to their child’s age group. Parents complete the form for elementary and middle school students, whereas high school students are encouraged to fill it out.
A tailored questionnaire is designed to assess executive function skills in the context of academic and personal development for college undergraduate students. Similarly, adult professionals have their version of the questionnaire, focusing on executive function in the workplace and daily life.
  • Customized EF Assessment: A no-cost tailored assessment of executive functioning is conducted to pinpoint strengths and areas for development. The assessment culminates in personalized SMART Goals to create a focused, achievable plan for enhancing executive function skills.
  • Choosing Your Coach: Clients can choose from a roster of highly skilled ADHD coaching experts. Detailed profiles assist clients in making a well-informed selection.
  • Free Remote Meet-and-Greets: Potential clients can connect with prospective coaches via free online sessions, building an essential personal rapport before making any commitments.
  • Assessment Session Start: The engagement begins with a discovery session, free from upfront commitments or fees, where the selected EF coach evaluates the client’s current circumstances and objectives. This session sets the groundwork for a tailored educational strategy to achieve substantial progress.

With weekly customized sessions and ongoing motivation through preferred communication methods, we focus on attaining goals through personal accountability and flexible coaching strategies.
