Our multidisciplinary team of professionals hold advanced degrees and have many years of experience working with students with and without learning differences of all ages and of all skill levels. Our staff is experienced working with students who don t have any learning issues and excel at their academics: our specialists have more training than regular education teachers and tutors so you will be working with an expert who will maximize your child’s learning. We support students in academics, reading/math/writing skills, test prep and study skills. Our staff are also experienced in coaching organizational skills, time management, and other executive functioning skills.

Before the session:

  • Sessions can be recorded and watched at any point by the student.

During the session:

• • You and the instructor are live!
  • You and your instructor work simultaneously from the same online materials or physical textbook(s)
  • Test results can be shared with a screenshare.
  • You and your instructor will solve problems in real-time interactively.

After the session:

• • You are assigned a tailored set of homework problems to complete and self-review prior to the next session.
  • You prepare specific problems to discuss with your instructor to ensure time is used efficiently.

PARENT AND FAMILY SUPPORT SERVICES FOR VIRTUAL LEARNING AND HOME SCHOOLING

Our professional staff will help parents of students K-12 and college with their family’s virtual learning program this spring and summer. Support services are remote and custom-designed to parents needs, and students grade, abilities, learning needs. and classroom curriculum. Our staff are knowledgeable of private and public school K-12 curriculum and local and state curriculum.

Services might include creating daily and weekly schedules, managing academic needs, class assignments, organizing digital documents, researching student resources, project planning and time management, designing activities for downtime, and supplementing teacher lessons. Professionals will collaborate with parents, tutors, teachers, other professionals, and will follow the school s curriculum.

EXAMPLES OF HOW WE HELP PARENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES

Our staff will

• design a plan to decrease screen time and increase productive time;
• break up online tutoring and sessions into manageable timeslots during the week;
• shorten sessions but add 15 minute check-ins with students via FaceTime chats, texts or phone calls; and/or
• design offline hands-on interdisciplinary activities for students to work on independently and designed to build new knowledge and skills.

Our staff will

• supplement with daily lessons, projects and grade their work; and/or
• design offline and online enrichment activities based on the student interests to build knowledge and new skills. Our staff are multi- talented in the sciences, math, history, literature, language, psychology, sports, etc. Julie, Themba's Director, has expertise in arts, architecture, design, history and museum education.

Our staff will

• design and maintain a management plan that minimizes distractions, schedules time for breaks; includes a realistic and achievable routine; and establishes consistent work spaces;
• help with troubleshooting;
• set up a homeschooling schedule and a to-do list with tasks and priorities, and includes time allocated for school vs. fun activities;
• plan how to balance parent s work from home needs;
• advise on behavior management;
• coach students on building executive functioning skills including time management, organization, scheduling, and planning projects; and/or
• followup with students to make sure they are held accountable for their schoolwork.

Our staff will

• design a schedule and management plan with the family;
• supervise student work, help with homework assignments, and prep for exams;
• provide computer tricks, tips and training on remote programs used by their schools;
• implement any of the services mentioned in the above section ***

• We customize curricula, starting with careful assessments, then applying developmentally appropriate methods and strategies. The student's current academic material is an important focus, but strengthening core skills is crucial because that will last a lifetime. We coach students to learn how to organize, plan, prioritize, focus, avoid distractions, and keep track of materials and tasks.

• Goals include improving memory and information retention, spending more focused time on tasks and completing them, decreasing procrastination, organizing schoolwork, managing time more effectively, and learning to think carefully before acting. Specialists model and support the application of skills in the appropriate context. They put the student in the driver s seat to best generalize these skills without holding the steering wheel.

• We specialize in tutoring students who are struggling with learning differences focusing, organizing, studying, test-taking reading, writing, math, languages, and other subject areas. We are experts in ADHD/ADD, executive functioning, language processing, reading (e.g. dyslexia), writing, (e.g. dysgraphia), and math disorders (e.g. dyscalculia), autism spectrum disorders, non-verbal learning disorder, and other learning differences.
