Physical chemists attempt to understand these phenomena at a really small scale — on the extent of atoms and molecules — to derive conclusions about how chemical reactions work and what are the things that give specific materials their own unique properties.

Chemists typically specialize in biochemistry, neurochemistry, nuclear chemistry, or theoretical chemistry.
