The application essay is one of the most critical aspects of applying to a school. While grades and test scores clearly depict a studentâs academic standing, they do not reveal anything about a studentâs character or personality to admissions officers. That is why a college or application essay is so important: It allows students to introduce themselves and demonstrate what makes them unique in their own words.
Although the outcomes vary depending on the applicant, the process is consistent. Our NYC college essay tutors teach a systematic approach to effective communication with minimal effort. After brainstorming, we move on to critical thinking and organizing the outline to write. In addition to having a great personal statement, the student will gain valuable tools for future essay writing.
Whether you’re writing about a common themeâa sport you enjoy, volunteer work or community service, or lessons you’ve learned from someone you admireâor a unique or unexpected subject, it’s critical that your essay be written in your own distinct voice. This is because a college essay allows a student to present important details about himself or herself that are not included in the rest of the application. A college essay should:
â Give an accurate picture of a student’s personality and values.
â Display a student’s character, which cannot be determined solely by looking at his or her transcript or resume.
â Be introspective and personal.
The following are the key elements of a good college essay:
â A college essay should be written in the student’s own distinct voice.
â A college essay must be unique.
â A college essay must demonstrate why and how you are a good fit for the college or university.
â A personal and meaningful college essay is required.
