Executive Function Coaching for K-12

Are you finding your child struggling with managing school assignments or staying focused during homework? Have you wondered if there’s more you can do to help enhance their learning abilities? If so, here’s everything you need to know about executive functioning.

It is estimated that around 6-7% of all students in the United States have executive functioning issues. This figure represents over 3 million students out of the estimated 50 million nationwide.

Executive functions (EFs), including skills like working memory, flexible thinking, and self-control, are essential cognitive abilities that predict students’ performance on standardized academic assessments across middle and high school grades. This study highlights that teacher assessments of EFs are more predictive and consistent than self-evaluations, particularly in math, reading, and English language arts. It underscores the significance of these skills in predicting academic success consistently across diverse student populations. The findings reveal a notable correlation between EFs and reading and language arts scores, reinforcing the importance of objective, external evaluation of EFs in fostering academic achievement among a broad range of students, including those with disabilities.

Our program teaches students the 13 executive function skills for academic success, empowering them to navigate school and beyond.

TESTIMONIALS

My son got to a point in his writing where he just hit a wall with brainstorming. He needed some extra 1:1 time outside of school with someone who could handle the executive functions aspect, the anxiety piece, the extra time/silence my son sometimes needed, and the warmth and creativity that is his native space. Jake was beyond perfect. I just couldn’t have dreamt up a better fit. In addition, he documented his process, what was working with my son, so that I have a collection of emails to look back on when I need reminding about how to help my son when he’s feeling stuck – which is now very seldom. If I had five thumbs, they’d all be up. So I’ll just say, 5 stars! Thank you, Jakek and thank you, Themba Tutors. (By the way, this was affordable, to boot.)

Khalilah has been a fantastic science and executive functioning tutor for my daughter. She was quickly able to assess the best and most effective methods for teaching. She is also high energy and extremely dedicated to making the most out of her sessions. Highly recommend!

I was referred to Themba Tutors to help my daughter strengthen her executive functioning skills. Craig was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. He provided us with a few different tutors to meet in order to find the right fit. We’ve been working with McEdwin “Mackie” he’s been wonderful. My daughter has worked with several tutors over the past 5 years and Mackie is the first tutor she happily meets with. This is a huge win!.

Dr. Netta is a lovely, extremely reliable, professional, approachable, attentive, and very caring professional. Our daughter had different organizational needs than a typical high school student so Netta was open to communications with me as the three of us planned a course of action. The fact that Dr. Netta is also trained as a psychologist was extremely valuable. Our daughter always enjoyed her executive functioning sessions with Netta and looked forward to it weekly. We were very happy with Netta’s coaching services and highly recommend her!
