We could not be happier with the services Valerie provided! She is very thoughtful and knowledgeable and provided significant guidance to support our daughter's speech development outside of our scheduled sessions. She established … More a great working relationship with her, and she will definitely be missed! Your business model is amazing and it was an absolute pleasure working with Valerie. I've referred your organization and Valerie to the Executive Director of our daughter's school and friends/colleagues who are in need of speech therapy services.

We saw her for a feeding therapy evaluation and while she doesn’t think my daughter needs more feeding therapy sessions at this time, but she gave me lots of tips to try. We had a very positive experience with Alissa as a tutor for our pod of 5th grade boys from January - June 2020. She cared a lot about the boys and worked hard to create meaningful activities for them. The pod experience was invaluable … More for all of our families during a difficult year and we were so grateful to have found this partnership! We also want to appreciate Craig for helping to match us with a tutor on very short notice after we had cycled through a few folks who were not able to see the commitment through. Thanks for sticking with us!

Dusty was the exact person we needed to help our child finish out the school year. So grateful to him for the way he steadily encouraged her and helped her stay on track and organized. He is flexible, responsive to our needs/schedule as … More a family, and a delight to be with. We are also thankful that Craig at Themba Tutors really "gets it" and partnered us with such a wonderful tutor who was a great fit for our girl.
  • Avatar Nicole May ★★★★★ 3 years ago
My child worked with Gillian D virtually for math enrichment. She is an excellent teacher. She took time to understand my child's specific learning style and provided tools that would be engaging. She was kind and empathetic- really … More made it her goal to connect with my child and build trust and rapport. My child started the school year with confidence and without the typically "brain-drain" that occurs over the summer, thanks to Gillian.

Our son started in a new high school, 100% remote, and was really struggling with Latin and Physics. I found Themba Tudors online and had an initial call with Craig, who was very knowledgeable, responsive, and found 2 amazing tutors for … More us. Both the Latin and the physics tutors were fantastic, connected with my son really well and helped him go from 'failing' grade to 'honors'! I will for sure continue using (and recommending!) Themba Tutors. Thank you, C, K, and W!

As an adult student diagnosed with a learning disability during grad school, I knew I needed help dealing with my Master's program's demanding workload. I was seriously considering dropping out when I was referred to Themba Tutors. … More I was paired up with a wonderful tutor, Julie, who was a total lifesaver. I learned many techniques that I can utilize in the future as I embark on the next phase of my career.
I can wholeheartedly say after working with Themba for two years that I would not have finished my program without this organization. And I am so thankful I selected them.

We were introduced to a wonderful tutor: Mcedwyn. He and our son, a freshman in college, worked well together. As a result, our son’s grades significantly improved. The tutor taught our son subject content and various methods to effectively … More study for quizzes and exams. Our son was also taught time management and organization. My son’s experience with the tutor made the first year of college a less intimidating experience.

We have been with our tutor, Cailin Schiller, for two years, from 5th - 7th grade. She started as an executive functioning tutor with my daughter. From the start, she demonstrated a depth of expertise and a selective use of techniques skillfully … More adapted to my daughter’s ADHD and Math disability. Cailin made Math accessible and understandable to her in a way that even her teachers had not been able to do. She differentiated reading, writing and math tasks and assignments to tailor them to my daughter’s unique learning differences. Not only did it have an effect on her grades and her work efficiency, but she finally could do her work with less anxiety. Even my daughter’s teachers used Cailin’s guidance to modify their work with her. But most importantly, she became my daughter’s favorite resource. I can’t say how invaluable Cailin has been to my daughter’s progress and well-being. I’d recommend her a million times over. She is a gem.

We were very lucky to have found Edwouine Swift, my son's therapist through Themba Tutors. Thomas is 12 years old, and it is extremely difficult to get him to write. REMOTE COLLEGE CHEMISTRY TUTORING – GENERAL, ORGANIC & PRE-MED COURSES

Our remote college chemistry tutoring is designed for students taking General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or pre-med science courses. Sessions focus on conceptual mastery, problem-solving, and independent study skills — all delivered online for maximum flexibility.

remote-college-chemistry-tutoring-nyc

Why Remote College Chemistry Support Is Different From High School Chemistry Tutoring

College-level chemistry is often the first course where strong students begin to feel overwhelmed. These challenges are unique to college-level expectations and differ from high school courses. Whether you’re taking General Chemistry I, Organic Chemistry, physical chemistry, or an accelerated honors sequence, the pace, abstraction, and problem density can quickly exceed what worked in high school.

For many advanced high school students in New York City (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island), Westchester, Long Island, Boston, Connecticut (CT), and New Jersey (NJ), chemistry becomes challenging when coursework begins to mirror the pace and expectations of a college class. Honors, AP, and accelerated programs demand deeper conceptual understanding, faster problem-solving, and more independent study habits than students may be used to.

Topics like atomic structure, chemical reactions, molecular theory, and intermolecular forces require students to work fluently across equations, models, and quantitative reasoning. Even strong level students can struggle when assignments take too long, labs feel overwhelming, or studying becomes inefficient.

We often see students hit a wall not because they “don’t get chemistry,” but because the workload and expectations outpace their current systems for studying, planning, and follow-through.

Unlike traditional high school chemistry tutoring, college chemistry tutoring often focuses on helping students navigate large lecture courses, demanding lab requirements, cumulative exams, and independent study expectations.

Many students come to us from universities, community colleges, summer college programs, dual-enrollment programs, and pre-med pathways where chemistry is a required gateway course.

What Makes College Chemistry Difficult — Even for Strong Students

Students usually reach out because chemistry has started to feel harder than it should — not just conceptually, but in how much time and effort it’s taking each week.

Advanced students often struggle with:

  • Difficulty managing intensive lecture and lab workload
  • Long problem sets that require multi-step reasoning
  • Retention and application of abstract concepts
  • Effective note translation into study strategies
  • Time management, procrastination, and exam stress

If any of these feel familiar, working with a private chemistry tutor through structured online tutoring should focus on both content mastery and a repeatable plan for how to study and complete work efficiently.

Comprehensive Chemistry Tutoring for High-Performing Students

Our comprehensive chemistry tutoring is designed for students taking demanding coursework who need structure, clarity, and accountability — not generic homework help.

Our approach emphasizes:

  • Conceptual understanding before memorization
  • Clear problem-solving frameworks
  • Efficient study routines that reduce wasted time
  • Confidence-building through guided practice

By combining strong instruction with structure between sessions, students improve faster and feel more in control of the course.

College Chemistry Courses We Support (Remote)

Our remote college chemistry tutoring is designed for students enrolled in rigorous college-level science courses that require strong conceptual understanding, quantitative reasoning, and independent study skills. We support students taking chemistry as part of pre-med, nursing, engineering, biology, allied health, and other STEM pathways.

Common courses we support include:

  • General Chemistry I
  • General Chemistry II
  • Organic Chemistry I
  • Organic Chemistry II
  • Chemistry for Nursing Students
  • Chemistry for Allied Health Programs
  • Pre-Med Chemistry
  • Chemistry for Biology Majors
  • Chemistry for Engineering Students
  • College Summer Chemistry Courses
  • Dual Enrollment Chemistry Courses

Courses are confirmed during the free consultation to ensure the appropriate tutor match and level of support.

Colleges & Universities Our Students Attend

Our remote chemistry tutors regularly support students enrolled at colleges and universities throughout New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and across the United States. Students often seek support while attending:

  • Community colleges
  • State universities
  • Private universities
  • Pre-med programs
  • Engineering programs
  • Nursing programs
  • Summer college courses
  • Dual-enrollment programs

Topics Commonly Covered in College Chemistry Courses

Advanced students develop a deeper understanding of chemistry by mastering both theory and application. Instruction commonly covers:

  • Atomic structure and electron behavior
  • Molecular theory and bonding
  • Chemical reactions and reaction prediction
  • Kinetics and reaction rate
  • Acids and bases, pH and pOH
  • Thermochemistry and enthalpy
  • Spectroscopy fundamentals (IR, NMR, UV-Vis, as applicable)

These topics are taught with an emphasis on why reactions behave the way they do, not just how to calculate answers — similar to approaches used in top programs such as Cambridge and leading chemistry department curricula.

How We Teach College Chemistry (Remote)

Success in college chemistry requires more than completing homework assignments. Students must learn how to process large amounts of information, solve unfamiliar problems, and study efficiently between lectures, labs, and exams.

Our instructional approach emphasizes:

  • Conceptual Understanding First, Memorization Second
Students learn why chemical principles work before focusing on formulas and memorization.
  • Clear Problem-Solving Frameworks
We teach repeatable methods for approaching multi-step chemistry problems with greater confidence and accuracy.
  • Structured Study Routines
Students develop efficient study systems that reduce wasted time and improve retention.
  • Guided Practice and Confidence Building
Tutors provide support while gradually increasing independence and self-reliance.
  • Regular Measurable Feedback
Progress is monitored through coursework performance, exam preparation, study habits, and academic goals.

The goal is not simply to improve grades in chemistry, but to help students develop the analytical thinking and study skills needed for long-term success in demanding college science courses.

Regular Feedback and Skill Transfer

We provide consistent feedback to students and parents so progress is visible and measurable. This helps students move from struggling with chemistry assignments to working independently and confidently.

Over time, students don’t just improve their grades — they develop study habits and analytical skills that transfer to other advanced science and math courses.
