Autoshop 101 Hands-on Learning Contract for Jack
21-10 Grove Street, Ridgewood, Queens (please note that this garage is approximately one hour away from Midwood). Jack is expected to request an Uber 90 minutes before each scheduled class.
Please note that if Jack is expected to attend all classes, arrive early to all classes, study outside of classes, and use a binder/folder with relevant materials to help him learn during his classes, he must pass daily and weekly quizzes, and be prepared to get his clothes greasy. If Jack does not meet all of these requirements, his auto shop lessons will be terminated. Craig will tell his father that Jack should not enroll in any auto shop classes for 2021 and 2022.
Attendance is mandatory unless Jack is sick, has a family emergency, or is on a holiday/vacation. Jack must give two week’s notice if he is on vacation or is not available to attend a lesson. Jack must notify us right away if he’s sick.
Jack is allowed to miss one class per module (3-4 weeks) for other reasons not specified above. If Jack misses one class for reasons not specified above, he will be put on notice. if Jack misses two classes during one module, tutoring will be suspended indefinitely. Class will be terminated. Klyde will not want to work with Jack. Craig will not offer Jack any alternatives.
For weekday lessons, Jack is required to arrive by 2:45 pm. For Sunday lessons, Jack is required to arrive by 11:45 am. If Jack arrives after 3:05 pm on weekdays or after 12:05 pm on Sundays he is considered late. If Jack is late two or more times per week (unless there is a lot of unexpected traffic), classes will be suspended. Jack needs to inform Klyde immediately if he’s running late.
Jack will be required to bring a binder/folder with visuals and diagrams to sessions. Klyde will assist Jack with this. Jack will need to actively reference these visuals/diagrams during his lessons to build upon and practice his Auto 101 vocabulary and knowledge base. We will also ask Jack to learn auto vocabulary and fundamental concepts at home through this App: https://www.brainscape.com/ or a similar one. We will show him how to use this App. Jack will need access to Youtube, e.g., his phone or a tablet. He will create a Youtube channel to review and learn car mechanical work. Klyde will show him how to customize/organize videos to help supplement his in-person learning. If Jack does not engage in these materials, he will most likely fail our weekly quizzes.
At the end of each class, Jack will have a 5-10 minute five-question hands-on verbal quiz (10 points), or if it’s his last class of the week, he will have a weekly cumulative hands-on verbal quiz see paragraph below). To help Jack pass the quizzes, Jack will have access to his binder/folder, notes, and Youtube videos. Klyde will also provide Jack the quiz questions before the lesson so Jack can preview the questions. Jack will need to score at least 8 of 10 points to pass each quiz. If Jack fails the quiz, he can re-take the quiz the following lesson (day). He will be given two more opportunities to pass the quiz, and Klyde will re-visit the content needed to be reviewed. If Jack does not pass the quiz on the 2nd or 3rd attempt, lessons will be placed on hold until he passes the quiz. At the end of each week (last weekly session), Jack will have a 15 question hands-on verbal quiz (10-20 minutes). During the quiz, Jack will have access to his folder/binder, notes, Youtube videos. All 15 questions (30 points) will come from the quiz questions provided to him during that week. Jack is required to score at least 26 points to pass the weekly quiz. If Jack fails the quiz, he can re-take the quiz the following lesson (day). He will be given two more opportunities to pass the quiz (three options in total). Klyde will re-visit the content to help Jack best understand the content he needs to review. If Jack does not pass the quiz by the 3rd attempt, lessons will be placed on hold until Jack passes the weekly quiz.
Klyde will provide gloves, and Jack will have access to a bathroom. Jack will not get his clothes dirty during weeks 1-2. During weeks 1-2, Jack will work with basic tools to dissect parts, e.g., engine components, to see the inside of engines. Starting during week 3, Jack will need to wear clothing that will get dirty. It is recommended that Jack wear a plain shirt (or any shirt that can be stained) and pants as grease will get on his clothes. Jack will need to bring a change of clothes to each class starting during week 3.
